We have made mapping import and export available in Symfio. Download the table to Excel, edit it in the environment you use every day, and upload it back. Bulk mapping edits are now a matter of minutes, not hours of clicking in the UI.
Three values we build the Symfio product on – and this feature hits all three:
Your time is our benchmark. If you can do a bulk mapping edit in five minutes instead of an hour, that is a success on our side, not yours. Mapping hundreds of accounts across dozens of entities shouldn’t be a two-day project.
Mapping decides how your data looks in reporting. An error in one row carries through to every statement, plan and consolidation. Excel gives you tools for checking, cross-validation and reconciliation that no UI can match – VLOOKUP against a reference table, conditional filtering, colour coding to spot problems.
Controllers and CFOs work in Excel. That’s how it is and how it will be for a long time. Instead of forcing you to do everything in our UI, we give you a way to keep working in the tool you know best – and connect it directly to Symfio. Symfio alongside your Excel, not against it.
The procedure has three steps, and for a file of a few hundred rows it takes five to ten minutes.
| 1 EXPORT download the table with the current mapping | 2 EXCEL edit it in your environment with formulas and validation | 3 IMPORT upload it back and Symfio applies the changes |
The edited table is validated on import – if something is missing, duplicated or refers to a non-existent entity, Symfio tells you before applying anything. Nothing is overwritten blindly.
Export/import makes the most sense in these situations:
For individual edits, clicking directly into a cell in the UI is still fastest. Export/import doesn’t replace anything – it just adds a second route for cases where the UI starts to slow you down.
You’ll find both export and import in the mapping section under Categorisation. The procedure is documented. If you are unsure about your first import or have non-trivial mapping you want to discuss in advance, get in touch at support@symfio.app and we’ll go through it with you.
