Going all in on SaaS. You can now set up metrics yourself.

For a long time Symfio has been heading towards a single goal: to be the reporting backbone for modern companies. More and more of them are SaaS companies – so we are giving them the tools their business really needs. We are starting with complete SaaS reporting that you can now set up yourself.

Why SaaS

The number of SaaS companies in Symfio keeps growing. And they have one thing in common: traditional financial statements aren’t enough for them. A SaaS CFO isn’t only interested in EBITDA – they need to see MRR, churn, CAC payback and Rule of 40 side by side, over time and without assembling it by hand in Excel.

That’s why we are investing in SaaS deliberately. The new SaaS report is the first bigger step, and more are coming.

What’s new in the product

Self-service setup. No waiting for implementation. Using tags in the reporting categories (MRR, Sales, Marketing) you mark the relevant accounts, cost centres or projects, and the report starts working.

Ten key metrics in one report:

  • Recurring revenue (MRR / ARR) – with a split into New MRR and Lost MRR
  • Recurring clients – new, lost, total
  • Net retention – T12M or Lifetime comparison
  • CAC and CAC Payback – with an adjustable period and cost-impact lag
  • Monthly churn rate – including a rolling T12M
  • ARPC – average monthly revenue per client
  • CLV and CLV / CAC – a healthy business model vs. a loss-making one
  • Rule of 40 – switchable between EBITDA and Operating profit

Switch it on from any date. You don’t need to recalculate history. You can start tracking, for example, from the beginning of the year, even if your reporting holds five years of accounting.

Table view. All metrics over time on one screen – useful for board packs and investor reporting.

A follow-up Revenue controlling report. For detailed analysis of gained and lost clients by segment, size or product.

Key takeaways

Two things that make the difference between a healthy and an unhealthy SaaS company:

  1. Rule of 40 above 40% and CLV / CAC above 3 – that is the bar below which investors start asking uncomfortable questions.
  2. CAC Payback under 12 months is excellent; over 18 months is a problem. If it is getting longer, it is the first warning sign, even before it shows up in churn.

The report not only calculates these thresholds but also warns you visually as you approach them.

How to start

If you don’t have SaaS metrics active yet, get in touch – it is a module beyond the basic Symfio package. For existing users we have prepared detailed documentation that takes you from setting up tags through interpreting the individual metrics to a recommended procedure for analysing company health.
