What share of your revenue do your personnel costs make up? By what percentage did overheads grow year on year? In Symfio you get these answers directly in the income statement, without exports and without Excel.
Every CFO knows this situation: you look at the income statement and want to quickly understand how the cost structure is changing and how the numbers are developing over time. Until now, that meant downloading data, opening Excel and calculating percentages by hand. In Symfio we have built these two key analytical views directly into the income statement.
In the top right corner of the report you’ll find two toggles: % of revenue (vertical analysis) and YoY (horizontal analysis). Just click and you immediately see the numbers in a new context – no waiting, no formulas.

Vertical analysis answers the question: “What percentage of revenue does this item cost me?” Click % of revenue and a column with the percentage share of total revenue is added to every line of the income statement. It works at any level of detail – from the main categories (gross costs, overheads) down to individual accounts.
For financial management it is an invaluable tool. At first glance you see, for example, that personnel costs make up 77% of revenue, production costs almost 100%, or that unassigned costs are only 2.3%. You can immediately compare the structure between years and identify where proportions are shifting – whether positively or as a warning sign.

Horizontal analysis answers a different but equally important question: “By how much has this item changed compared with last year?” When you activate the YoY (Year over Year) view, four columns appear:
This view is ideal for quickly evaluating dynamics. You see, for example, that revenue grew by 468% year on year, but overheads even faster – by 513%. Or that the gross margin improved from –20% to –1.9%, a shift of 18 percentage points. You could easily miss trends like these in a table of raw numbers.

The real power of both analyses shows when you combine them with the filters Symfio offers. You can filter the income statement by company, cost centre, project, activity and business partner name, and then apply vertical or horizontal analysis to the filtered data. Want to know what share of revenue wages make up in just one subsidiary? Or how costs changed year on year at a specific cost centre? It’s all a few clicks away.
Vertical analysis (% of revenue) reveals structure – it shows where every crown of revenue goes. Horizontal analysis (YoY) reveals dynamics – it shows what is growing, what is falling and how fast. Together they form the basis of all good financial reporting. In Symfio you have them available at any time, in one click, directly in the income statement.
