New: decide where Symfio places new accounts in the mapping

When accounting is connected, or when a new account appears during the month, the same question always came up: should the account be automatically placed under the default income statement subcategory, or should it fall into “unassigned” and wait for the controller to assign it manually?

From now on, you decide that yourself, for each entity.

Where to find it

At the top of the Categorisation → General screen you’ll find a new toggle “Automatically assign default income statement subcategories”:

The toggle in the Categorisation → General tab above the mapping table.

How it works

  • On – new accounts are automatically placed under Symfio’s default subcategories. Reports stay complete without manual intervention. Suitable where you want the data in your reports immediately and fine-tune the mapping later.
  • Off – new accounts appear as unassigned and wait for manual assignment. Suitable for entities with their own chart of accounts or where the controller wants full control over where each account belongs.

The choice can be reversed, and a change applies to all new accounts from the moment you switch. The existing mapping does not change.

What we recommend

If you have a standardised chart of accounts across entities (typically holdings with a unified methodology), leave the toggle on – you save yourself routine work and get instant reports.

If you work with several accounting systems with non-standard charts of accounts, or you want full control over every change in the mapping, turn it off – Symfio will send every new account to the “unassigned” queue.
