Symfio 2.0 is now live for its first customers

When we wrote about Symfio 2.0 in July, the new version was still in development. That has changed. Symfio 2.0 is now live with our first customers, running on real accounting data and within their regular monthly cycle.

This is the final phase before we migrate everyone to the new version. Below, we summarize what’s changing, what it means for people who work with the app every day, and what’s next for your account.

Speed: Starting Right from the Load

The most noticeable improvement in the new version is responsiveness. Reports and dashboards load faster, you can switch between reports without waiting, and responsiveness remains consistent even when the system is processing large volumes of data. Changes to settings are also reflected in reports more quickly.

It may sound like a matter of convenience. In reality, it changes the way people work with the app—and we’ll come back to that later.

What Else Is New

  • New interface and login. A more modern and interactive design, and a new login process with several two-factor authentication options.
  • Redesigned Executive Summary. Significantly more room for customization and easy sharing of dashboards with the people who need to see them.
  • Flexible report building. You can create the report you actually need in one place, including direct comparisons with plans or adjusted data against the plan.
  • Comments directly in the system. You can attach notes and context directly to the income statement or to variances in plans and forecasts. This way, explanations stay with the numbers they belong to.
  • Manual journal entries. Add your own entries directly to the journal in Symfio without having to post everything to your primary ERP first.

Five interconnected layers

A key change in version 2.0 is the expansion of the product into five interconnected layers that cover financial management as a whole:

  1. Data infrastructure. Accounting systems, ERP, plans, forecasts, and custom data sources. All reconciled and up-to-date in one place, just a few clicks away.
  2. Metrics. Margins, debt ratios, EBITDA, and other indicators tailored to the specifics of your business, not based on a generic template.
  3. Planning and forecasting. You build budgets and forecasts directly on top of live data, without manually copying and pasting between files.
  4. Custom dashboards and data sources. When a company needs something beyond the standard features, we connect the source it actually uses. Whether it’s CRM, timesheets, project management, or a proprietary system—and build reporting on top of it.
  5. Advanced monthly closing checks. Automatic monthly checks that flag discrepancies in management accounting before they start costing money.

The first three layers, on which Symfio already operates today, have undergone a complete technological overhaul in version 2.0. Layers four and five take the platform beyond the realm of reporting and analysis. Closing checks are designed to support the finance team, not as yet another screen that someone has to go through.

What You Actually Get Out of It

Numbers you look at, not numbers you have to hunt down. Reports that take a long time to load are opened once a month, when someone sets aside time for them. Reports that load instantly are opened right during the meeting where decisions are made. It’s a different relationship with your own data, and it’s determined mainly by how long a person is willing to wait.

A single version of the numbers. Reporting is based on accounting data, so the numbers management discusses are the same ones used for tax returns and financing negotiations. With shared dashboards and role-based permissions, the meeting can focus directly on making decisions, not on figuring out whose spreadsheet is up to date.

Context that lasts beyond a month. A variance explained in a note to the income statement is still explained in March. A variance explained in an email has to be pieced together from memory, usually by the person who has the least time for it.

Management reporting that doesn’t wait for accounting. Manual journal entries mean you can reflect a known expense or a known adjustment in your view of the company before they’re posted to the ERP. Reporting then shows what you know, not just what’s been processed.

Errors caught while they’re still inexpensive to fix. Automatic closing checks reveal discrepancies in management accounting at the very moment a correction is needed, not three months later, when they’ve already quietly influenced decision-making.

The controller’s time returned to the company. One thing holds true across the board: the hours currently spent on exports, searching for data, and repeatedly building the same report are reclaimed for analysis. That is the purpose of the new version: to eliminate routine tasks.

What’s Next for Your Account

We’ll migrate you to Symfio 2.0. The migration will take place gradually for all existing clients. The foundation remains the same. Your data will continue to run on the same accounting sources and under the same security standards, and you won’t need to rebuild the reporting logic we set up with you.
