Symfio + OneDrive: Bring spreadsheet data into your financial management

For plenty of companies, Excel files on OneDrive are the natural home of plans, budgets and records. They are available from anywhere, backed up and easy to share. Getting their data into financial reporting, however, is usually manual: download, copy, paste, send. And next month, again. Symfio ends this carousel. It connects to designated files directly on OneDrive and reads them by itself. You set a file up once and from that moment every update automatically flows into the reports. No sending attachments, no uploading, no forgotten versions.

What does connecting Symfio and OneDrive bring you?

Automatic file synchronization

Symfio regularly loads designated files from OneDrive. You work with your spreadsheets as before, save a change and the reporting recalculates with the next synchronization. The manual step between the file and the report disappears.

Plan versus actual without exports

An Excel budget on OneDrive is continuously compared in Symfio with actuals from the accounting. You adjust the plan and the comparison recalculates by itself. You see deviations by month and cumulatively, without maintaining a single formula.

A simple path for supplementary data

Anything without its own system, whether records, operational metrics or code lists, gets into the reporting through a file on OneDrive. Keep the agreed structure and the data flows by itself.

Files stay with you

Nothing is moved anywhere. Files remain in your Microsoft account, under your access rights and backups. Symfio reads only what you share with it and does not write into the files.

The end of versions in e-mails

Once Symfio reads data directly from the source, distributing updates and guessing which attachment is the latest becomes unnecessary. All authorized users see the same, current numbers in the reports.

How the connection works

Symfio runs in the cloud, so there is nothing to install on your side. During implementation we define which files and tabs should be loaded and agree on their structure. Symfio then synchronizes the data regularly and processes it into overviews. It has access only to the files you share with it and only reads their content.

The technical part of implementation usually takes tens of minutes. The managerial part takes longer: setting up the reporting structure, categorization and plans. How long it takes depends on how well your company has its financial management thought through. If you have no finance manager, we can help through our fractional CFO services.

Key benefits for users

  • Time saved: files load by themselves, with no downloading or uploading.
  • Better decisions: plans and records meet accounting actuals.
  • Fewer mistakes: no more carrying numbers between files and systems by hand.
  • Data under control: files stay in your Microsoft account.

Who is the connection for

It suits small and mid-sized companies that work in the Microsoft environment and do not want to change their habits because of reporting. A typical scenario: accounting flows into Symfio through a connector, the plan and a few operational records are maintained in Excel on OneDrive, and everything meets in one overview with no manual work.
