Conrad: getting started with the AI controller

Conrad is the AI controller built into Symfio. You ask it in plain language about statements, cash flow and receivables, and it answers from the data loaded in Symfio. Use it when you need to quickly summarise results, find a variance or check how something is booked, without clicking through the reports.

Before you start

  • Permissions: every Symfio user can use Conrad. It answers only from the data of companies you are permitted to see; what you cannot see in the reports, Conrad cannot see either.
  • Time required: first answer within a minute; no setup.
  • Have ready: up-to-date accounting data (the time of the last refresh is shown at the bottom of every report) and a specific question: which company, which period, what you want to know.

The Conrad screen

Open Conrad by clicking Conrad in the left menu (address go.symfio.app/en/conrad).

  • Header: avatar, the name Conrad, the AI CONTROLLER label and the subtitle “Ask in plain language about statements, cash flow and receivables.” On the right is the Skills button, which opens skill management.
  • Left conversation panel: the + New conversation button, the Search conversations field and the RECENT list with the conversation name, date and time. The … menu next to each conversation offers further actions.
  • Welcome screen: “Hi, I’m Conrad. What would you like to know?” and the prompt “Start with one of these suggestions or ask anything about your data in Symfio.” Below are four suggestions, each labelled with the report it draws on:
    • Summarise the income statement for this month (Income statement),
    • Which invoices are overdue? (Receivables and payables),
    • Explain the change in cash flow versus last quarter (Cash flow),
    • 5 largest cost items this year (Executive summary).
  • Input field “Ask Conrad about your finances…” with the Attach button (attach a file), the Skills button (choose a skill for this answer), the model selector (for example claude-opus-5-5 (Azure, global)) and the send arrow. The hint below the field reads Enter sends · Shift + Enter new line.

Your first conversation

  1. Click Conrad in the left menu.
  2. Click one of the suggestions, or type your own question into the Ask Conrad about your finances… field. Name the company and the period, for example “Summarise the income statement of Karlínfornia Property for September 2026 and compare it with the plan.”
  3. Send the question with Enter or the arrow. Insert a new line in the question with Shift + Enter.
  4. Read the answer and continue with follow-up questions in the same conversation. Conrad remembers the conversation context, so you can write “and now the same for August”.
  5. For a different topic start a + New conversation. Older conversations are in the RECENT list or via Search conversations.

What to ask Conrad

Conrad works on the same data as the Symfio reports: statements, cash flow, receivables and payables, and account mapping. Typical tasks and example questions (conversation names from the demo environment):

Area Example question
Statements “Top 3 drivers of H1 2026 results” – which items influenced profit the most in the first half-year and by how much.
Cash flow “Explain the change in cash flow versus last quarter” – breakdown of the change into operating, investing and financing flows.
Receivables “Unpaid invoices of the holding by urgency” – open documents sorted by days overdue.
Account mapping “Check the account mapping of Karlínfornia” or “show me how account 518900 is classified” – which income statement category and subcategory the account falls into and whether it makes sense.
Group anomalies “Suspicious transactions in the group” – unusual amounts, duplicate documents or entries outside the usual pattern across companies.

You can ask in English, Czech or Slovak; Conrad answers in the language of the question.

How to ask for a useful answer

Name the company and the period. “What are our costs?” is too vague. Better: “Overhead costs of Karlínfornia Property for Q3 2026 by cost center, compared with Q2.” If you have access to several companies, Conrad otherwise has to guess which one you mean.

Ask for a table. Add “answer with a table with the columns item, amount, share in %”. You can then easily copy the result into an e-mail or a presentation.

Ask for the source rows. For every important figure, request the accounting entries it comes from: “list the journal entries that make up this amount, including document and account”. You can then verify them in Reports › Source data.

Use a skill. If you want the same type of analysis repeatedly (for example a monthly income statement commentary in the same structure), save the procedure as a skill and select it with the Skills button next to the input field. See Conrad skills.

Attach supporting material. With the Attach button you upload a file (for example a budget from management or a bank export) and ask Conrad to compare it with the data in Symfio.

Limits and things to watch

Conrad answers from the data loaded in Symfio. It knows nothing about documents that are not yet in the accounting system or have not been synchronised. Check the Accounting data update time at the bottom of the reports; if it is old, the answer is based on old data.

Verify important numbers in the report. Conrad is an assistant, not the source of truth. Always verify amounts that go to management, the bank or auditors directly in the Income statement, Balance sheet or Receivables and payables (drill-down Click a value for details).

Permissions apply to Conrad too. It sees only the companies and reports you have access to under Companies › Users. If you ask about a company you have no access to, you will not get its data.

Categorization determines answer quality. If accounts are unmapped (values in Unassigned costs), Conrad cannot classify or comment on them correctly. Complete the mapping under Categorization › Mappings.

Frequently asked questions

Can Conrad change data or settings in Symfio?

Conrad is for querying and analysing data. Edit account mapping, plans or company settings in the respective parts of the application; at most Conrad suggests what to change.

Why does Conrad not see a particular company?

You have no permission for it, or its data has not been loaded from a data source yet. Check Companies › Users and Data sources (status Connected).

What is the model selector next to the input field for?

It determines which AI model prepares the answer (for example claude-opus-5-5 (Azure, global)). For everyday work keep the default.

What is the difference between Conrad and connecting Claude via MCP?

Conrad is inside the application and needs no setup. Use the MCP server connection when you want to work with Symfio data in your own Claude, see Connecting Claude to the Symfio MCP server.
